A few tips

  • Before you pick a place, tell each other what you need most: rest, movement or somewhere new. It spares you a weekend where one of you wants to lounge and the other to see everything.
  • For a weekend, choose places no more than three or four hours away. A longer ride eats Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, and two days turn into one.
  • Book well ahead for Polish long weekends, such as majówka, the string of holidays in early May. Off-season and midweek stays are usually cheaper and calmer, so one Friday off can change the whole trip.
Where should couples go for a weekend in Poland?

Pick somewhere you can reach in a few hours that fits what you enjoy together: mountains, the sea, a lake, a city with good food or thermal pools. Cities and thermal pools work well in fall and winter, water and trails in summer.

Where to go for a weekend in Poland without a car?

Go where the trains go: big cities and some seaside and mountain resorts, such as Sopot on the Baltic or Zakopane below the Tatra Mountains. Every destination here is marked if it’s easy to reach without a car.

How do you plan a first trip together as a couple?

Keep it short and loose: a weekend nearby, one planned thing a day and plenty of slack. Agree on the budget and who books what beforehand, so all that’s left once you arrive is the fun part.
