🧘 Calm for couples

Couple meditation: 3 guided exercises

Short guided meditations for two: gratitude, 4 minutes of eye contact and an evening wind-down. Text and a timer, no sound. One phone and a few minutes is all you need.

These exercises are for relaxing and closeness. If anything feels uncomfortable, stop at any time.

🙏 Gratitude for couples

Five minutes on what you are grateful for in each other. At the end, one sentence each, out loud.

  1. Sit comfortably facing each other. Put your phones face down, keep only this one with the fox. (40 s)
  2. Close your eyes. Three calm breaths: in through the nose, a long breath out through the mouth. (40 s)
  3. Think of one ordinary moment from the past week that made you happy thanks to this person. See it clearly: the place, the words, the light. (60 s)
  4. Hold hands. Think of one thing you value in this person but rarely say. (60 s)
  5. Open your eyes. Take turns saying one sentence each that starts with: Thank you for… (60 s)
  6. Finish with one long breath out together. Smiling allowed. (40 s)

👀 4 minutes of eye contact

Four minutes of silence, looking into each other’s eyes. Sounds simple, and it can bring you closer than a long talk.

  1. Sit close, face to face, close enough to see the color of each other’s eyes. No words, no phone. (30 s)
  2. Look into each other’s eyes. If you start laughing, that’s fine. Let it pass and come back to the gaze. (60 s)
  3. Breathe calmly. Notice small things: the color of the eyes, the lashes, how the face across from you changes. (60 s)
  4. Think: this person is also afraid of something and dreams of something. Stay with that thought for a moment. (60 s)
  5. The last minute. You don’t have to do anything. Just be here. (60 s)
  6. Done. Say one word each about how it felt. (30 s)

🌙 Evening wind-down

Five minutes at the end of the day, lying down side by side. Good before sleep or after a hard day.

  1. Lie down comfortably next to each other. Turn off the light or dim the screen. (40 s)
  2. Take three long breaths in the same rhythm. Let the breath out be longer than the breath in. (60 s)
  3. Feel where your bodies touch: an arm, a hand, a foot. Keep your attention there. (60 s)
  4. Think of one good thing from today. It doesn’t have to be big. A coffee or a message counts. (60 s)
  5. Whisper that one good thing to each other. (40 s)
  6. A few more calm breaths. Good night. (40 s)
Are the exercises free?

Yes. Breathing together and the couple meditations work here for free, on one phone, with no account.

How long does it take?

From 1 to 5 minutes. Start with the short version and make it longer once you like it.
